Privacy Policy

1. What stays on your phone

The app keeps these on your device only:

• the languages you chose (mother tongue, second language, the language you are learning) and their varieties;
• the topics you imported, the words in your boxes, your listening list and your favorites;
• your review history (which box a word is in, when it is due) and your best game scores;
• your settings (box layout, voices, Latin letters, theme, the player's speed and pauses).

None of this is sent to us or to anyone else — the app has no server to send it to. Uninstalling the app, or clearing its data in Android's settings, deletes all of it.

2. Android's backup

If backup is turned on for your phone, Android can include your Library and settings in the backup it keeps in your own Google account, so a new phone can restore them. That backup is made by Android and stored by Google under Google's terms; we cannot see or reach it. You can turn it off in your phone's settings.

3. Ads (Google AdMob)

A single banner is shown on the Dictionary and Library screens — never while you are answering, listening or playing. It comes from Google AdMob, through the Google Mobile Ads SDK and Google's consent software (the User Messaging Platform). To show ads, measure them, limit how often you see the same one and prevent fraud, Google's software collects:

• device identifiers — the Android advertising ID and the app set ID;
• your IP address, from which an approximate location can be estimated;
• interactions — for example that the app was opened and an ad was seen or tapped;
• diagnostic information about how the app and the ads software perform.

In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland the app asks for your consent with Google's consent form before any ad is requested. You can change your answer at any time in the app under Settings › Privacy options. If you decline, Google may still show non-personalised ads, which use the information above without building a profile of you.

Anywhere, you can reset or delete your advertising ID in Android's settings (usually Settings › Privacy › Ads, or Settings › Google › Ads). How Google uses this information is explained in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services and in Google's Privacy Policy.

4. Speech, keyboards and notifications

• Recorded voices are part of the app, or come as downloads through Google Play; playing them sends nothing anywhere.
• For a language without recordings, the app asks your phone's own text-to-speech engine to say the word. Only the word itself is passed to it. The engine belongs to your phone, and its maker's privacy terms apply to it.
• To decide whether to offer letter tiles, the app checks which keyboards your phone has. The answer stays on the phone.
• The hands-free player shows a notification with its controls while it plays. Nothing about it leaves the phone.

5. Why this data is processed (GDPR)

We do not process personal data about you ourselves: what the app keeps stays on your device. For the ads, Google processes the data described in section 3 on the basis of your consent where the law requires consent (in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland), and otherwise on the basis of legitimate interests in showing and measuring ads and preventing fraud, which is how the app is paid for.

6. How long data is kept

• On your phone — until you uninstall the app or clear its data.
• Ads data — kept by Google as described in Google's Privacy Policy.

7. Your rights

Because we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing for us to send you, correct or delete: everything the app knows about you is on your phone, where you can see it, change it and delete it. For the ads data, use the consent choice in the app, the advertising-ID settings on your phone, and the controls Google offers. You can always ask us a question at sci.ronick@gmail.com, and you have the right to complain to a supervisory authority — in Sweden that is IMY.

8. Children

The app is made for teenagers and adults. It is not directed at children under 13.

9. International transfers

We transfer nothing ourselves. Google may process ads data outside the EU/EEA, under the safeguards described in Google's Privacy Policy, such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.

10. Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. If the app ever starts collecting something new, this page will say so before the version of the app that does it is released.
